SQUIRRELS

4 to 6 years

We have a new provision for four to six year olds called Squirrels, to help young people gain skills for life at a time when it matters most and where it's most needed.

Who are Squirrels?

Squirrels are young people aged 4 to 6 who:

Squirrels can achieve anything they set their minds to – and they have lots of fun along the way.

The one hour sessions are a brilliant opportunity for young people to take their first step into being part of Scouts, and they’ll help everyone get ready for the adventure of school too.

Sessions are packed with outdoors activities, fun, games, badges, laughter, and so much more to help our youngest members learn the skills they need for life.

Squirrels

What do Squirrels get up to?

Every week, Squirrels will gather to grow and learn their way through lots of different games and activities.

The Programme

We’re really excited to share the Squirrels programme with you!

Each badge is packed with wow and wonder, perfect for anyone who’s ever asked ‘Why?’ (or ‘Why not?’). You’ll tell stories and play games. Get active and explore the outdoors. Become a brilliant builder and a super chef. There’s something for everyone – and that means that there’s something for you.

Trying new activities and learning new things

There are 27 activity badges to choose from but you don't have to do them all.  Become an expert in something you love, or try something shiny and new. There’s a badge to suit each and every Squirrel.

Completing awards challenges you to do more, learn more and be more. Once you’ve made your promise, you’ll get your Membership Award. It’s a purple badge with a picture of the fleur-de-lis – an international symbol that’s worn by Scouts all over the world.

Moving up to Beavers

Eventually, it’ll be time to say goodbye to Squirrels and explore your next big adventure with Beavers.

Who leads Beavers?

Each Drey is made up of young people aged 4 to 6, led by an adult Squirrel leader. All of our leaders are trained volunteers, working to make sure Scouting is safe and open to all. Some lead the Drey week in and week out. Others visit occasionally to help run a session or drop in to share their skills.
